LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 30 Luger. S# 8083. Bbl. 4 3/4". Due to the restriction imposed by the Treaty of Versailles, DWM was unable to produce any new Luger pistols with a bbl. of more than 100mm (approx. 4"), even for commercial sales, ultimately resulting in the Swiss being unable to procure any more P'00/06 Lugers (with a 120mm bbls.), which was the standard civilian target pistol at the time. This situation was remedied via the importation of barrel-less Lugers from DWM to Switzerland, which were subsequently fitted with Swiss mfg. bbls., either by Hammerli or independent Swiss gunsmiths, whom typically used spare bbls. that had been mfg. by Waffenfabrik Bern. This example, is one of the aforementioned "barrel-less" imported Lugers that was fitted with its bbl. by Fluckiger, a well known Swiss gunsmith. The right side of the bbl. extension is marked with Fluckiger's logo, consisting of an "F" and "Z" above a Swiss Federal Cross sunburst motif, all within Fluckigers trademark bow and arrow, with a German Crown/N commercial nitro proof marked on the left side. Toggle is marked with the Swiss Federal Cross within a shield crest, with the rear link / toggle ears being of the Swiss P'06/29 / 1929 pattern. Underside of forward toggle link is marked with a rifle logo, indicating sub-contracted mfg. by Sig Neuhausen. Bbl. is not of the standard Swiss contour, featuring a rapidly tapered breech section, which is marked with the Swiss "BP" (Beschubprobe) proof on the top and with a Swiss Federal Cross firing proof on the underside. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, as well as the ejector, which are polished in-the-white. Toggle pins and grip screws exhibit a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood Swiss Model 1924 pattern wide border grips, and features a grip safety. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, sideplate, trigger, grip safety, and bbl. extension, with remaining parts/components being unnumbered. MAGS: x2 plated 8-rd. with wood plug marked with Fluckiger's logo twice on the underside. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unmarked Swiss brown leather commercial holster containing aforementioned spare mag. CONDITION: metal components retain nearly all of their apparent Swiss applied rust blue finish, exhibiting few spots of faint edge wear overall, with a small spot of wear present on the front grip strap. Strawed parts are excellent. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting a couple of small spots of light pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some minor smoothing, as well as a few superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting some scattered superficial handling marks overall, with some minor age related cracking and crazing present on the closure flap. An exceptional example of a 1920s era Swiss commercial Luger, with an unusual and distinct bbl. that was fitted by Fluckiger. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1185/MLW). CURIO. $3,000-5,000.
