PERCUSSION REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 1222. Approx 4800 of these percussion revolvers were mfg in Newark, NJ from 1858-62. The 2nd variation revolvers such as this one are fitted with a 6-shot cylinder with 12 stops and larger triggerguard and grips than the 1st series revolvers. This example has an added silver plaque on the back strap that reads "PRESENTED TO WILLIAM FISHER. MACHINIST. 1864." It is a factory engraved example with a 5" octagon bbl with "MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS MF'G. CO. NEW YORK" bbl address. The 6-shot cylinder is roll stamped with a stage coach scene. The frame and backstrap are engraved with a foliate scroll with punch dot background. The frame, bbl, & wedge have the full matching SN "1222". The cylinder is marked "12" on the rear face. Grips are 2-piece figured walnut. CONDITION: Overall good. The metal is lightly cleaned and void of finish with an even silver/grey patina. The engraving and markings are good with some mild softness. The presentation plaque inscription is decent with wear to the word "PRESENTED" and the rest remaining clear. Good grips with hand wear. Bore has light frosting, mild rifling wear and a few small spots of pitting. (01-29411/ZAL) ANTIQUE $1000-1500
