P.08 POLICE LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 6857f. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by DWM in 1917 for the Imperial German military and subsequently retained after the conclusion of the war for police use. The bbl. extension is marked "1920/ 1917" (in compliance with the Treaty of Versailles), with DWM arsenal proofs and an Imperial German Reichsadler marked on the right (Reichsadler repeated on bbl. and left side of breechblock). Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Front grip strap is police unit marked "S.C.II.23.R.179" ("23" and "R" markings have been lightly crossed out), indicating issue to the "Schutzpolizei Kassel" (Protection Police, Kassel). Metal components exhibit a period police arsenal reapplied blue finish overall, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy trigger bar safety, with the frame being fitted with a clipped Walther trigger / mag. safety. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Grips are very faintly stamped "57" on the interior of the panels. MAGS: 1 non-matching Haenel Schmeisser 8-rd. with aluminum plug marked "2/ 8910" above a police eagle proof (this police eagle proof found only on Haenel Schmeisser mags.). CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their period police arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some spots/patches of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, as well as scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting. Front grip strap exhibits areas of wear fading to gray patina, with light scattered spots of dark surface oxidation. Rear grip strap exhibits consistent light surface oxidation. Strawed parts exhibit wear fading to a dark gray patina. Bright bore, exhibiting a consistent scattering of light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show mild smoothing and some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6087/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
