HEAVY BARREL PLAINS RIFLE. Cal. 54. The Philip Wilson Co. were gunmakers circa early 1860's located in the 5th Ward of Philadelphia. They made and sold quality firearms in a short window during that era. This example is fit with a 31 5/8" heavy octagon rifled barrel with a dovetailed silver blade front sight and dovetailed tiny V rear sight. The top flat is stamped "PHILIP WILSON & CO PHILA 134". The bbl attaches to a patent breech that is decorated with double platinum bands and chip & dot engraved borders. It is stocked with a dark toned maple and carries a full set of silver furniture with pineapple finials and an eight point star silver inlaid cheek rest. Double set triggers. CONDITION: Overall very good. The metal has a nice balanced patina. The stock is nice with some scattered handling marks and added varnish. (01-28824/ZAL) $1500-2500
