Cal. 16ga. Deboubert was an early Parisian gunmaker that held one of the very first French patents for a percussion cap system. He went on to apprentice the famous gunmaker Louis-Francois Devisme who eventually took over his shop where the successor made exhibition level firearms for Queen Victoria and ornate firearms for a presentation by King Louis-Philippe to Prince Albert. It is fitted with tight pattern welded 31" bbls with a steel bead front sight on the concave game rib. "DEBOUBERT BREVETE A PARIS" is inset in gold with flanking wheat spikes. The bolster area including the breech of the rib is decorated with an acanthus scroll with hatched background. The hammers are engraved with a serpentine styling and standing leaf border. The back action lock is banner style engraved with the same makers mark that is found on the bbl with a matching acanthus scroll. The stock is of fine marbled French walnut with an extremely well carved face found on the toe line of the stock and matching rosette and scroll relief carving.,The trigger guard and ramrod ferrule are engraved with more acanthus scrolling and foliate motifs with vased finials. CONDITION: Overall very fine. The bbls have some areas of light wear and a few spots of old oxidation but otherwise very nice with attractive ribboning. Engravings, markings and stock carvings are crisp. Stock is very good with some light handling marks. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of FEGA Master Engraver Joe Rundell.
