UNDER-HAMMER PERCUSSION BOOT PISTOLS FEATURED IN THE SEPT. 2007 GUN REPORT .Cal. 33. NSN (#20 imprinted into stocks). Michael Carleton was trained by his father, Rev. War veteran Dudley Carleton, as a cabinet maker, but was also a gunmaker. He patented a firearms design in the early 1830's, but as the US Patent Office burned down in 1836, patents were lost. His patented was for an improvement in Percussion Gun Locks & his work has been notable for Underlever hammer designs. Pgs. 14-21 of the Vol. 53, No. 4 Sept. 2007 issue of The Gun Report describes Michael Carleton's life, designs & impact. Both pistols have half rnd., half oct. 3 5/8" bbls. Brass fixed sights. Horizontal inline strikes using the triggerguard as a mainspring. Walnut bag type grips with brass straps; bottom straps have maker & Patent markings. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: folder of paperwork that includes 2 copies of Sept. 2007 Vol. 53, Number 4 issue of The Gun Report. These 2 pistols are on the front cover, pg. 14. CONDITION: both barrels have gray patina appearance with marks. Worn original wood finish with dings. Strong straight rifling with pitting. (01-29209 (2)/MD). ALL ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
