Nickel Plated Remington New Model Army Single Action Percussion Revolver, #115871, .44 cal., 8" octagon barrel, nickel finish with blued cylinder, smooth two-piece walnut grips, standard fixed blade front and notched rear sight. Barrel address reads "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A./NEW-MODEL". Matching serial number located on left side of the grip frame, underside of barrel, back of the cylinder, and in pencil on back of the right grip. There is a clear government inspectors cartouche of Giles Porter "GP" on the bottom of the left grip, with a large "L" stamped above that cartouche. Additionally, there are several additional sub-inspection proofs stamped on the gun, including a "W" at the rear frame, "C" on the left top side of the frame, "W" on the left side barrel flat at the breech, "Q" on the underside flat of the barrel near the muzzle, "J" on the front of the trigger guard, "C" on both the right side barrel flat & right side frame, "G" and "C" on back of the cylinder. Factory lettering and inspectors marks are clear. Overall condition is very good, retaining approx. 92% nickel plated finish; thinning and toning blue on the cylinder, mixed with mild frosting. Nickel finish was applied over light pitting and erosion along top of the barrel and frame, with additional pitting visible on the right front of the frame. Walnut grips are very good with nice grain pattern, scattered moderate dents and scratches, particularly along the bottom edge of the left panel. Action is crisp and cycles smoothly. Bore with scattered spots of light erosion, rifling is clearly defined and rates very good overall. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique) (Michael Strietbeck Collection)
