CONTRACT LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 30 Luger. S# 3685v. Bbl. 4 5/8". Commercial / Contract Luger mfg. by Mauser in 1936. The bbl. extension is marked "1936" over the top of the chamber, with a double crowned "U" commercial proof (repeated on left side of breechblock and front face of foresight bed) and the S# marked on the left. Toggle is marked with the Mauser banner logo. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever & ejector, which are strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, toggles, as well as the grips. Unusually, the top of the breechblock has also been stamped with the last 2-digits "85". MAGS: x1 non-matching blued steel 8-rd. with aluminum plug. Underside of plug has been renumbered, likely during the period and is marked "1128/ h" above a Mauser Eagle/63 proof. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original rust blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild edge wear and thinning, some superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Strawed parts are good, showing wear along edges and in contact areas that is fading to gray patina. Mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some mild smoothing and few light superficial nicks to the diamonds, but otherwise remain sound. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1156/MLW). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
