LEATHER CARRY CASE. Cal. 22 S, L & LR. S# 302757. Scarce 24" octagon barrel with Lyman 5B Beech Combination front sight (pin and ball globe) with white bead and double screw base, correct Marlin rear barrel sight with "fish hook" elevator plus Lyman No. 1 tang sight. Mfg. 1904 (1897-1922) with special barrel length having "Fire-Arms" (rather than 1 word) legend marking with March 1, 1892 as last patent date; no caliber markings. Tang marked "MARLIN." over "MODEL '97"; tang sight marked "C" (Colt 22 Lightning and Remington Model 6) with large target disc; appears to be a proper fitment. Second variation with flat topped receiver factory drilled and tapped for Hepburn receiver sight; plug screws installed. Factory checkered pistol gripped walnut stock set with checkered Marlin logo hard rubber rifle buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: soft leather carry case (unknown maker) with compartments for barrel / receiver assembly, buttstock / receiver and a cleaning kit; well oiled havign white waxy residue. Well worn, but no damage to buckle straps, carry handle or body. CONDITION: very good plus original finish with exceptional case colors on receiver and hammer; grey patina tone to lever. Magazine tube has thin finish along with cleaned oxidation that left some light pitting. Breech bolt has bright blue with light scratches; very light peppery oxidation on receiver adjacent to bottom of breech bolt. Thinning blue on high edges of forend nosecap. Very good stock set having light handling marks throughout its original gloss finish. Hair trigger but fine mechanical functioning. Very good bright bore with light wear. (26-2118/NW).
