This large heavy visually attractive brass bell is numbered "1336" on top. Internet research indicates that the locomotive was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1915 for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. The coal-fired locomotive was known by its 4-6-2 wheel arrangement as a "Pacific" type and was used on heavy passenger trains. The bell measures approximately 17" across and 13" tall. It is mounted in a very heavy cast iron frame which is in-turn attached to a 2 and approximately 20" square wooden base. Several more numbers in the top along with "1336". These numbers have been lined out and may indicate some form of previous use. Bell is LOUD. CONDITION: bell has been cleaned over small dings and scratches and is returning to patina. The cast iron framework has a vintage dull black painted finish. Wooden base is stained a dark brown and has light wear. (02-26612/RW). NON-GUN. $1,500-2,250.
