"EAGLE/L" P.08 POLICE LUGER WITH HOLSTER & SPARE MATCHING MAGAZINE. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 5868y. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1942 and subsequently issued to the German police. The bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1942" over the top of the chamber, with an Eagle/N commercial nitro proof marked on the left (repeated on left side of breechblock), and a German police Eagle/L proof on the right. Toggle is marked with the Mauser banner logo. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy police safety. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Bbl. and grips are unnumbered. Sideplate, takedown lever, and trigger appear to be police arsenal renumbered. MAGS: x2 (apparent) police arsenal numbered matching blued steel mags. with aluminum plugs. x1 mag. marked with x2 Eagle/37 proofs, Haenel's "fxo" mfg. code, and "P.08", with plug marked "2/ 5868". The other marked with the Haenel arrow logo, followed by "SCHMEISSER PATENT", with aluminum plug marked "3/ 5868" above an Eagle/C proof. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather holster mfg. by A. Fischer, marked "A. FISCHER/ BERLIN C.2/ 1943" above a "B" within an eagle proof on the rear panel. Holster contains loading tool marked "2119." on the rear. CONDITION: near fine, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original factory salt blue finish, exhibiting light to mild wear predominately on the edges of the muzzle and sideplate, with a small spots of light pitting present on the sideplate and frame. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light to mild smoothing and a few superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting some superficial handling marks and light age related cracking, with the closure flap strap exhibiting some losses to the stitching. Closure flap strap stud is cracked on one side. A very attractive 1942 dated Mauser banner police Luger. (26-2085/MLW). CURIO. $3,000-5,000.
