1851 NAVY PERCUSSION REVOLVER. Cal. 36. S# 66320. Mfg. 1857. The 7.5" oct bbl is hand stamped "JOHN. L. TRAP." on the top right flat, as well as, on the flat under the loading lever. The top flat is marked with the 1-line address "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY-" and hand stamped with the "MO. CAV." marking. It has a period replaced German silver blade front sight and a "3" added to the flat near the wedge. The 6 shot cylinder has a matching "3" & "66320", however the naval scene is no longer legible. The three screw frame is stamped with "COLTS / PATENT / US". Brass straps with a matching "3" on the trigger guard strap. The orig colt 1-piece grips have the last four digits of the matching SN in the channel, a matching "3" on the butt, and a faint inspectors cartouche ring on the left side. The bbl, cyl, straps, and grips are all matching numbers. The loading lever is mismatched with SN "6276" and the wedge is an unnumbered replacement. Missing wedge screw. CONDITION: Overall fair. The metal surfaces have a dark mottled patina with some dents and oxidation. The cyl has a patch of moderate newer oxidation. The grips are hand worn with handling marks, corner chips and the ring of the cartouche is visible, however the inspector initials are illegible. The butt strap lower screw is a pan head replacement. The bore has distinct gain twist rifling with pitting. (01-29506/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1000-1500.
