The Collector believes this drum belonged to medicine man, Medicine Bird, as his name is written in togia on the drum. Numerous messages are also written on the drum. The square dancing drum was typically used by members of the Oglala Contrary Heyoka Society. The Collector also believes that Medicine Bird was the medicine man for Crazy Horse's Grass Dancers and a Heyoka spiritual leader of the Oglala Contrary Society.
