Martini Enfield 1886 Falling Block 5477/450 Cal Antique Military Rifle

This is an antique Enfield Martini-Henry Mk IV Single Shot Falling Block Military Rifle made circa
1886 with a production run between 1871 and 1889 with somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000
produced. The first iteration of the rifle came about in 1871 and was adopted by the British Army to
replace the Enfield Snider Breech Loading Rifles that were being phased out.

When the decision was made to make general issue of the Martini Henry MKII & MKIII to the Militia
and Volunteers in January of 1885 and the impending new .303 caliber, along with the suspension
and ultimate cancellation of the .402 bore in June of 1887, it was decided as a short term measure
to convert the 65,000 .402 Enfield Martinis already made to a usable .577/450 firearm.
These 65,000 rifles were designated the Martini Henry MKIV.

The action is based on the patent by American and Boston native Henry O. Peabody, which was
improved by Swiss inventor Friedrich von Martini. The new polygonal barrel rifling was the design of
Scotsman Alexander Henry. This is where the rifle derives its name. Martini–Henry variants were
used throughout the British Empire for 47 years. Like other British weapons, the Peabody-Martini-
Henry saw action all over the world, and most famously in the Zulu Wars in Africa.

The overall condition of this unit is good. This example is all original and bears many marks dents
and scratches one would expect from a service rifle of the era..
The action operates as intended. The bore is shiny bright with strong rifling. Markings are legible.
Solid wood with reproduction white leather sling

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 33 inches.

Caliber: .577/450

Overall condition as seen in photos.
