USE. This style of hat was prevalent in the mid-19th Century and is commonly called a Sheridan style hat made popular by Civil War General Philip Sheridan. The hat has a black beaver exterior with a wide 2" grosgrain band. The front has a Civil War cross cannon insignia with a "2" above. The brim of the hat is approx. 11 1/2" x 13" with a green underside. The paper liner is present, but the sweatband is gone. An inked name on the interior reads "William M. Baird". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a complete record of William Baird's service in the 2nd NY Heavy Artillery during the Civil War. CONDITION: there is minor wear to the nap of the beaver. As stated, the sweatband is missing. Otherwise, the hat is quite solid. (02-27194/BF). NON-GUN. $900-1,400.
