RING CARBINE. Cal. 50. S# 17894. Over 20,000 2nd model carbines were mfg from 1863-65. These carbines were used by many Union Cavalry units including the 9th & 11th Indiana and 11th Tenn. Fitted with 20" bbl with dovetailed blade front sight & 3 position leaf rear sight. Case colored rec. Stock has sharp double inspection proofs with no patchbox. Smooth iron buttplate. CONDITION: overall very good. Bbl retains 70% thinning orig blue with some freckled spotty old surface oxidation. Vivid case colors remain in the protected area under the saddle ring bar and muted colors remain in the other protected areas with the balance having a mottled brown patina. The stock is lightly hand worn with great proofs and handling marks. Bright bore with some wear to the rifling and pitting at the breech end. (01-29056/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
