Long Bull was a Yanktonai chief, inheriting the position from his father. When the battles of Rosebud and Little Bighorn occurred, Long Bull was a camp guard. His son Red Arrow rode with the rest of the band under Head Chief Mad Bear aka Foolish Grizzly. At some point Long Bull gave his son this rifle and both of their names are found on it.
