LOT OF TWO GERMAN 88 BOLT ACTION RIFLES.
This lot consists of the following rifles both in cal. 8mm Mauser:
1) VC Schilling KAR 88 Bolt Action Carbine. S# 2507d. Bbl. 18". Standard Kar 88 sights. Action screws are unnumbered later Bavarian type but all other visible numbers are matching to receiver. Rear band has "B.2.U.4.49." Bavarian Ulan unit marking. Front band has additional "B.R. (Reserve) B.5.45" cavalry marking. Receiver ring has standard VCS & "S" markings with 1890 date. Receiver & bolt assembly are "In-the-white". Balance of other parts are blued. Walnut stock with faint Imperial cartouches on right side of butt & left side sling bar. CONDITION: refinished stock has added finish with some dings, finish wear & handling marks. Receiver & bolt are polished bright with scattered oxidation staining & some light pitting. Balance of metal retains 40% arsenal blue with a small bbl. jacket dent, overall fading to gray, some light pitting, scattered oxidation, edge wear & handling marks. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bore shows scattered oxidation, dried grease & worn rifling. (01-28391/MJC).
2) Danzig GEW88/05 Bolt Action Rifle. S# 5503l. Bbl. 29". Standard Gew 88 sights with rear having Arabic graduations & missing its elevator. Bbl. jacket has been arsenal force matched but other visible parts are mismatched. Receiver ring has Danzig, "S" & Turkish "5645" markings with faint 1891 date. German 88 updated for 98 stripper clips & later provided to Turks as war aid. Bolt has Turkish numbers. Arsenal rework blue finish. Hardwood stock set with bottom mounted sling swivels. Cleaning rod present. CONDITION: butt has a large splice running through it & appears to be made that way. Stock otherwise has arsenal rework appearance with a couple small cracks, some abrasions, a couple plugged holes, scattered dings, light chips & handling marks. Metal retains 50% Turk arsenal rework blue with scattered pitting, edge wear, oxidation, handling marks, oxidation & some dents on jacket. Action functions properly when hand cycled.
