Japanese Type 99 Arisaka Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet, Toyo Kogyo Arsenal, #40245, 7.7x58mm cal., 25.5" barrel, blue finish, hardwood stock and handguard with two-piece buttstock and wooden buttplate, inverted-V front sight without protectors, adjustable folding rear sight with battle aperture; graduated to 1500 meters, no anti-aircraft wings. No cleaning rod. Top of the receiver ring with complete Mum only, no "Type 99" markings, which is correct for this rifle. Left side receiver rail stamped with 34th Series mark and symbols for the Toyo Kogyo Arsenal. No visible import marks. Numbered parts do not match the receiver. Bolt and firing pin match each other, early knurled safety knob does not match, and the extractor is not numbered. No number on the bayonet lug. Includes a non-matching Type 30 bayonet with metal scabbard and leather frog. Bayonet made at National Denki Arsenal with hooked crossguard. Rifle is in good condition. Majority of the original thinning and toning metal finish remains, mixed with moderate patina, displaying scattered frosted oxidation. Factory markings are clear. Wood with typical dents and scratches associated with age and service use, including a more notable scratch to the right side of the wrist. Action functions well. Bore is bright with very good rifling. Bayonet is very good; blade retains approx. 90% blue, with a few marks that look like finger prints. Pommel and crossguard are frosted with oxidation. Scabbard retains approx. 60% blue; balance is brown patina; no dents. Frog is good, showing moderate age and wear. Est.: $500-$750. (C&R)
