Cal. 45 with "2 1/10" (45-70-405) & "2 7/8" (45-90-500) bbl markings. S# 20410. Approx 1600 of these rifles were made with only 750 produced with round barrels. This example is fitted with its original matching SN "20410" found under the forearm. The barrel has been fitted with a wind gauge spirit level front sight replacing the standard open blade front sight that was found on these rifles. The rear bbl sight is the standard Lawrence ladder adjustable. Bbl is marked with the "JP LOWER / DENVER COL" hand stamping. The "Denver COL" was double struck. Other bbl stampings include the boxed "OLD RELIABLE" & "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN" markings. The rec is marked "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN. / U.S.A. / 20410 / PAT DEC 1876" on the left side. The upper tang has a modern mfg vernier tang sight that is aged to look appropriate. Single trigger. Smooth schnabel forearm held with 2 screws & spring retention screw. Smooth straight grip buttstock with checkered steel buttplate. CONDITION: overall good. The bbl has thinning blue with approx 20% remaining mostly found in protected areas with the balance having a mottled greyish/brown patina and showing some scattered handling marks. The markings are very good. The rec has some thin finish in the protected area under the lever with the remainder having a mottled grey patina with smooth old oxidation spots. The stock is hand worn with some varnish remaining in the butt area, a small crack at the rec near upper tang, and again at the upper buttplate peak. The forearm has some minor edge loss otherwise good. Both show scattered handling marks. Good cleaned bore with some rifling wear and areas of shallow pitting. (01-28778/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
