KENTUCKY RIFLE. Cal. 50. Rundell finished this contemporary gun with very similar embellishments to another example in this auction. This is fitted with a 40 1/2" browned octagon bbl with a brass band at the muzzle. The front sight is a dovetailed brass blade that sits just forward of the bbl transition to hexadecagon (16 sided). The 16 sided filing begins 2" from the muzzle and extends for 29" where it terminates in front of the small V-notch rear sight with intertwined line accented engraving. The top flat of the bbl is signed by "RUNDELL" and terminated with a geometric engraving pattern on the tang. The "RUNDELL" signed flint lock is scroll and leaf border engraved with double set triggers and sits on a raised platform with tear drop finial. The lightly tiger striped relief carved stock is decorated with a scroll carving that extends from the raised cheek rest, wrist & ramrod ferrule. The scroll and border-dash line engraved brass sideplate also sits atop a platform with tear drop finial. A tacked round pewter thumbplate is engraved "19 / ALLEN / 82". The scroll pattern pierced patchbox is cloud & scroll engraved with sleeping sun motif. The push button cover release is mounted on the top of the buttplate tang that is decorated with scroll and geometric designs. A full length toeline plate with 5 oval shape piercings is accented with scroll and intertwined border engraving. The faceted trigger guard is engraved on the bow with a federal eagle clutching a "LIBERTY" banner in it's beak and a sleeping sun forward of the bow. CONDITION: A turely lovely executed build with tasteful period style engraving and mellow mustard toned brass. All aspects very fine with only a few minor handling marks. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of FEGA Master Engraver Joe Rundell. (01-28801/ZAL) ANTIQUE $2500-3500
