UNDERLEVER SXS HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 2050. This shotgun most likely started as a percussion sxs gun, then converted to take 12 Ga., 2 1/2" shells; chambers appear to be reamed out for 2 3/4" shells but no proofs on water tables. The Damascus 27 1/8" bbls. have bright front bead, 13 Bore London black powder proofs; Chokes appear to measure around Full & Mod. Converted action has sprays of acanthus scroll engraving highlight vignettes of hound & pigeon on locks. Triggerguard bow has vignette of tiger & hound. Bird's eye maple forearm & straight grip buttstock. Forearm has patented Deeley release, checkering & horn tip. Buttstock has checkering at wrist along with wrist plate & 2 spliced piece of walnut that extend to comb & fitted for the tall peak buttplate. LOP: 13.5". CONDITION: barrels have fading brown finish turning gray with scattered light dings & light pitting near chambers. Action has cleaned gray patina appearance. Sanded & refinished wood shows large cracks along with smoothened checkering. Bores show heavy pitting forward of chambers. Barrels show light play to action. Right firing pin has broken spring & will stick impeding opening of action. (01-28481/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-1,000.
