METROPOLITAN NAVY REVOLVER. Cal. 36. S# 1800. Bbl. 7 1/2". This is one of several guns noted w/ spurious inscriptions to famous people. Regardless of inscription, this appears to be a good honest, scarce Colt copy made by Metropolitan Arms Co. of New York w/ original ivory grips. Randall Lee Gibson (1832-1892) was a prominent Louisiana politician & Tulane University's 1st president. He graduated from Yale University in 1853, returning to New Orleans to study law at school, at what is now Tulane University. On August 13th 1861, Gibson was commissioned Col. of 13th Louisiana Infantry, promoted to Brigadier Gen. Jan 11th 1864. CONDITION: Very good overall, all matching, traces of original blue, areas of pitting, good markings, well patinated smooth ivory grips fit fairly well, mechanics fine, good rifled bore. (01-29152/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
