ENGRAVED TO MATCH THE FAMOUS DODGE CITY LAWMAN & DEPUTY US MARSHALL BILL TILGHMAN'S FAMOUS ENGRAVED COLT. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 159443. Mfg. 1894. "Bill Tilghman was the greatest of us all." - Bat Masterson. This revolver was engraved to match the gun that was prized by Tilghman and featured in the June, 1977 Arms Gazette article "The Guns of Marshal Bill Tilghman". The original revolver was a Cuno Helfricht engraved example with the presentation "FOR / WILLIAM TILGHMAN / DEC. 15, 93". This revolver that is being sold today is a very well executed copy of that revolver. It is signed under the grips with the initials "BDL" on both straps. It is fitted with a 4 3/4" bbl with 2-line Hartford address. It has 70% coverage in fine foliate scroll and punch-dot back ground with Helfrict style accents. It is stocked with 2-piece mother of pearl grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: This revolver is accompanied by the June 1977 edition of Amrs Gazette, the Colt factory record listing SN 159443 as having the 45/c, 4 3/4", blue, not listed stocks, and being shipped to Simmons Hardware Company in Dec 1894 with a shipment of 15 guns. A 3 ring binder with a typed history of Bill Tilghman, copies of photos, articles & letters associated with the history of Bill Tilghman. Custom case with fitted blue velvet liner. CONDITION: The original example was noted as being in remarkably nice condition in the 1977 publication. This example appears to have been engraved on top of a gun that had quite a bit of pitting. The item remains in the white with well executed engraving. The grips are sound other than a small hairline check crack on the left panel. Bore is dark with some wear to the rifling and pitting.
