TO C. SLOCUM, WATERTOWN, NY. Cal. 22 Short. This revolver was originally shipped from S&W Stockbridge St. factory on June 5, 1861 to J.W. Storrs Co., New York City, NY amongst 140 units. Storrs was the sole agent for S&W from 1857-69 in the heart of Manhattan. They would embellish arms with engraving and likely personalized this revolver for Slocum with a finely executed script font with line scroll accents on the left side plate. It shipped from S&W with the 3 3/16" blued bbl with "SMITH & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD, MASS" bbl address, round German silver blade front sight, smooth rosewood grips, and the silver finish it retains today. CONDITION: Overall good. The bbl retains a very small amount of the original blue in the most protected area with the balance having and even dark patina. The frame retains 50% of the original silver that has tarnished in the strap areas and right side of the frame to a dark patina with good coverage around the inscription. The grips have some of the original varnish that is flaking with some scratches, handling marks and a cracked right grip panel. Bore has good strong rifling with some pitting.
