MODEL 1890 SLIDE ACTION RIFLE WITH FACTORY 19" BARREL. Cal. 22 Short. S# 16140. Mfg. 1892. While the standard bbl. length for the Model 1890 is 24", it is widely known that Winchester, for the right price would build a gun in practically any configuration one would desire. Page 313 of "WINCHESTER SLIDE-ACTION RIFLES VOL I: Model 1890 & Model 1906" by Ned Schwing lists only two 19" barreled guns. The survey shows that this special order feature appeared on 2 cased colored receiver guns and shows 0 on guns with blued receivers. Included factory letter shows that this gun is its original configuration as is. Either this was a mistake on the author's part, this gun was missed in the survey and now there are 3 or this rifle could potentially be the only blued 19" 2nd Model in existence. Also notable is this gun letters as "fancy stock". Pages 310 & 311 show a grand total of 203 2nd Model rifles with fancy special order stocks; only 38 listed on blued receiver guns. Blued metal finish throughout which was a special order feature in and of itself prior to becoming standardized in 1901. Original sporting sights. 12 groove gloss finished walnut slide handle in straight grip stock of extra fancy XXX grain walnut with crescent steel buttplate. Lower tang of stock marked "1113 XXX". Top tang channel of stock marked with matching assembly number.
