Hairy Hand was born in 1846 and he was a Northern Cheyenne. His name is found on this Bone Horse Head Dancing Stick along with markings of the Shield Warriors and Lightning Society. After fighting in the Indian Wars 1876-1877, he surrendered and was offered a scout position in the 5th Infantry with General Miles. By that time, he was tired of war so he focused on becoming a medicine man for the Northern Cheyenne.
