MARKED MAUSER C96 LARGE RING SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH STOCK. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 33915. Bbl. 5 1/2". Large ring C96 "Broomhandle" semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser. Top flat of the faceted breech is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/ MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A/N", with the S# marked on the left quarter flat, a double crowned "U" proof on the left flat (repeated on top of bolt), and an Ulm proof house antler on the right flat. Left side of the frame is agent marked "VON LENGERKE/ & DETMOLD/ NEW-YORK", with "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A NECKAR" marked on the right. Frame, bbl./bbl. extension, and floorplate exhibit a rust blue finish, with the safety lever, rear sight slide, and bolt stop exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Bolt is polished in-the-white, with the trigger exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered brown hard rubber grips, and features an integrally machined lanyard ring on the butt. Fixed blade front sight terminating in a bead style tip and standard V-notch tangent rear sight graduated 50-1000. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the frame, floorplate, follower, sub-frame, sear, sear arm, bbl. extension, bolt, bolt stop, as well as the rear sight leaf. Grips are matching via "K 33915", which is lightly inscribed on the interior of the panels. Locking block is mismatched via "12625". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching factory wood stock / holster with unmarked period black leather harness. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory rust blue finish, exhibiting light to mild edge wear that is fading to gray patina, scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Trigger and nitre blued parts retain good amounts of their original finish, exhibiting wear fading to gray patina and scattered spots of age related discoloration at contact points. Bore is relatively bright, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing and superficial handling marks overall. Left grip exhibits a large chip along the edge of the front grip strap, and has broken into 2 pieces, which both stay attached when the grip is screwed into place. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with a crack present at one corner of the main body. Lug has mostly faded to a gray patina, with the hinge plate retaining good amounts of original bluing and exhibiting scattered spots and small patches of light to mild surface oxidation. Black leather harness remains malleable, exhibiting varying degrees of age related cracking and crazing. An attractive VL&D agent marked Mauser C96. (26-2231/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
