LOEWE, CALIBER 7.65MM, ONE OF THE LAST TO HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED BY LOEWE, COMPLETE WITH UNNUMBERED STOCK/CHEEKPIECE, HOLSTER, AND SHOULDER STRAP. Cal. 7.65mm. S# 1013. High condition Borchardt C93 made by Lowe, late production, all matching including magazine. The rust blued pistol is fitted with the usual 7 5/8 inch barrel having a fixed/pinned front sight over barrel band and "V" notch rear sight blade secured with two screws. Three-line "WAFFENFABRIK LOEWE BERLIN" over chamber. Forward toggle link with patent reference, left side of barrel and barrel extension with "BUG" proofs. Single lined legend referencing Borchardt patent on the right side of the barrel extension. Full serial number "1013" on the bottom of the frame, barrel shank, trigger, and all the usual small parts to include the magazine plug. Sliding safety is gray case hardened; strawed sear; fire blued trigger, screws, anti-rebound latch, and the recoil spring housing covers. Walnut checkered grips with broad border. MAGS: x1 matching 8-rd. mag. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unnumbered shoulder stock/unnumbered cheekpiece with attached holster and shoulder strap. This example is also accompanied by an apparent reprint of the Ludwig Loewe instruction pamphlet. CONDITION: very good to excellent bright original rust blue, approximately 97%, with sharp edge wear and light handling marks as one might expect from a carefully maintained semiautomatic pistol well over 100 years old. Usual thinning over the toggle knob and extended border at bottom of frame. Front and back straps retaining the vast majority of their blue with a few scattered freckles. Comparable condition fire-blued and strawed parts that show no suggestion of enhancement. Original finish grips with slightly blunted checkering and a few light handling marks, the right panel with several indentations. Very good to excellent magazine. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics with sluggish action from congealed grease. Shoulder stock/cheekpiece with refinished wood; very good original blue on attaching lug with light fading/early toning; metal components on cheekpiece freshened. Original holster and strap with considerable crazing, intact stitching. A classic early developmental pistol, the first manufacturer to use a toggle-lock mechanism and well-known predecessor to the ubiquitous Luger. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (01-29022/LMA). ANTIQUE. $18,000-25,000.
