Group of Three (3) Japanese Iron Tsuba Sword Guards, two (2) antique and one reproduction. 1.) Octagon shaped iron tsuba with one large kozuka hitsu-ana hole. Decorated in applied gold wire designs of a dragon in the clouds chasing the jewel. The border is also outlined in gold. Designs are the same on both sides. Condition is fair, showing a coat of heavy varnish applied overall, several dings and dents, and some heavy scratches. 72mm x 65mm, unsigned. 2.) Large mokko shaped iron tsuba with a raised rim covered with a thin shakudo ring, nicely textured and worked surface, raised designs of tree branches, leaves and flowers highlighted with applied gold. The reverse shows leaves beside a stream. Two hitsu-ana holes for kozuka and kogai. Condition is good with a nice aged dark patina, very light minor rusting, and light wear to the applied gold. Shows punch marks and copper filler around the tang hole, showing it has been mounted several times during its life. 85mm x 80mm, unsigned. 3.) Reproduction cast iron tsuba with cast in pierced designs vaguely resembling a dragon. 78mm x 74mm. Est.: $200-$300.
