POWER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 120699. Bbl. 4 5/8". High Power semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Fabrique Nationale while under German occupation between January to November of 1942. The left side of the slide is marked "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE/ HERSTAL BELGIQUE/ BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE", followed by an Eagle/WaA140 proof and eagle firing proof (repeated on left side of frame). Left side of the bbl. is marked with 2 Eagle/WaA140 proofs. Metal components exhibit a blue finish, save for on the bbl., which is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, the left panel baring an inscribed "WiNNiE". Thumbprint slide features a dovetailed blade front sight and tangent V-notch rear sight graduated 50-500. Matching numbers are present on the frame and slide. Bbl. is mismatched via "40054a". It should be noted that German occupation High Power pistols that are Eagle/WaA140 proofed were subject to frequent sabotage from forced laborers at the FN factory via the quality of steel hardening and machining tolerances, which were not easily detected, therefore making many of these pistols unsafe for firing, and largely attributing to their collectibility. MAGS: x1 blued 13-rd. with alloy follower. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather holster mfg. by Rohrbacher Lederfabrik marked "cgn/ 43" above a mostly illegible eagle proof. CONDITION: metal components retain traces of their original blue finish, with the balance exhibiting wear fading to gray patina, scattered spots of oxidation, as well as varying degrees of pitting overall. Bore is relatively bright, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting and a notable ring bulge, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show moderate wear and smoothing, but otherwise remain sound. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting general overall wear, scattered areas of light age related cracking and varying degrees of crazing overall. Rear panel of holster shows tearing on either side of the closure flap "hinge". (26-1513/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
