PISTOL. Cal. 40. NSN. 2 1/4" bbl. This early European combination weapon has an overall length of 27 3/4" and a blade length of 22 1/2". The blade features a central fuller with a secondary fuller near the sping. It has a brass hilt with a down-turned scallop shell guard that also protects the mechanism for the flintlock pistol. The 2 1/4" steel cannon shaped bbl is unmarked, however the brass receiver is skillfully engraved "F.S KELLER" & "IN NEUSTADT". All parts of the pistol are steel with the exception of the receiver. The hilt of the sword has a down-turned pendulous quillon and a plain knuckle bow, slightly swelled in the center. The brass pommel caps a vertically reeded tapered horn grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: the blade has a medium gray mottled patina with scattered pitting and nicks to the edge. The lock holds one cocking position, but functions well from there. Brass has a mellow patina, both on the pistol and on the sword. The pommel is very slightly bent. Grip appears undamaged. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27488/BF). ANTIQUE. $1,400-1,800.
