Factory Engraved Remington-Smoot New Model No. 1 Revolver, #11, .30 RF short cal., 2-13/16" solid rib barrel, nickel finish with gold washed hammer and ejector rod, pearl grips, spur trigger, fixed half-moon front sight, and notched rear sight. This early production revolver features a rotating recoil shield. Metal surfaces with extensive floral scroll engraving throughout, with scalloped borders, and cross-cut pattern to both sides of the barrel. Barrel address is marked in one-line "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y. PAT. W.S. SMOOT. OCT. 21, 1873." The number "11" is stamped twice on the left side of the grip frame, once above and below the main spring. The Remington-Smoot No. 1 revolver was patented in 1873 and produced by Remington & Sons from 1875-1877, with approx. 3,000 produced. Overall condition of this revolver is very good to near fine, displaying approx. 30% nickel finish, primarily to sides of the barrel. Hammer and ejector rod retain approx. 65% gold wash. The iridescent pearl grips are fine, with hairline fissures on the surface around the brass escutcheons, and "XVII" scratched into the back of each grip. Markings and engraving are crisp. Action cycles smoothly but the hammer will not stay on full cock. Rifling is very good with scattered light erosion present. Est.: 1,800-$2,400. (Antique) (Michael Strietbeck Collection)
