MACHINE GUN. Cal. 30-06. S# 1324. Bbl. 24". Hooded blade front sight. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2600yds. Marlin made 1917 Potato Digger known as such due to the cocking arm which would project downward during firing & dig a hole in the ground. NFA registry lists Marlin as mfr. Receiver has standard Marlin Arms Corporation markings & a period X'd out serial with a period applied number "1324". These guns were used by the AEF for training prior to going into France. Blued finish with grip assembly having a rough cast appearance. Hardwood grip panels. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: aftermarket hardcase, tan canvas cover, proper tripod with brass hardware, spare tripod legs & wooden seat that appears to be of newer mfr. Also included are several FOIA documents including a redacted 1941 registration that list this gun as formerly unserviceable. CONDITION: grip panels show scattered dings, handling marks, a couple small cracks & have an overall undersized appearance. Metal retains 40% original blue with overall fading to brown with oxidation, scattered edge wear, handling marks & strong blue along the barreled action. Screw behind rear sight appears to be a more modern replacement. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Chamber appears to have remnants of weld from previous dewat. Very good bore with strong rifling. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-2291/MJC). CURIO, CLASS III. $14,000-20,000.
