M60 MACHINE GUN IN E4 MK43 CONFIGURATION. Cal. 7.62 Nato. S# SM29. Bbl. 20" One of a very small number of guns manufactured by Maremont w/ an "SM" serial number Prefix. These guns were manufactured for a special commercial order and are rumored to exist in numbers totaling only 50 or so. When someone thinks about the firearms of the Vietnam War era there are usually a few images that come to mind. When you combine those with 1980's Hollywood movie guns it's clear that one of them will be an M60 General Purpose Machine Gun. For those who collect such memorabilia there is a name that rises to the top and that is Maremont Corporation. Once located in Saco Maine, and eventually transitioning to Saco Defense, before being purchased by General Dynamics, Maremont Corporation was the primary manufacturer of the M60, lovingly referred to as "The Pig" and they remain highly regarded today. This example is a very rare find in that it still remains as new. This gun is as pristine as it is rare & desirable. The 20" threaded barrel is terminated with the updated 1.5" flash hider, just forward of the folding bipod & front sight. Black front handguard w/ 3.5" picatinny rails on each side as well as the bottom. Currently sporting TangoDown vertical foregrip. Top mounted, side folding carry handle on the front trunnion, just forward of the tall, windage & elevation adjustable, folding rear sight. The Trunnion is marked: "MACHINE GUN / 7.62MM M60 / NEW ENGLAND GROUP / MAREMONT CORP. / U.S." On the left side is the serial number: "SM-29". The top cover has a 6.5" picatinny rail on top. Left side feed mechanism above the U. S. Ordnance pistol grip & fire control group Shoulder stock w/ wire shoulder rest. The bolt carrier has a white wax marking dot, which signifies that this gun has not been fired, beyond test firing. The colored wax wears off immediately upon use. All new Maremont M60s possess either a green or white wax dot following manufacture. Everything about this gun points to being like new, without even gentle sign of use beyond test firing. CONDITION: While the plastic furniture displays a few drag lines, everything about this gun indicates it is still in its "as new" condition. Full finish coverage w/ very few rub marks. No obvious thinning, even in areas of mechanical intervention where it happens almost immediately. Mirror bright bore w/ strong rifling, still retaining the cardboard wick. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-2164/JZ). MODERN CLASS III. $80,000-120,000.
