Cal. 58. NSN. 13" overall the 7 1/2" octagon to round cannon turned barrel has some fine armorial engraving on rear flats. Round bodied lock with matching serpentine cock has inset rounded pan, bridled friction frizzen and feather spring with bulbous finial. undecipherable maker's name and St. Etienne address are at center. Stock with knob grip is made of European walnut, extends to muzzle and is pinned to barrel. Raised mouldings are around most elements and are enhanced by relief carved scroll behind barrel tang. Brass mounts include heavy grip cap with side spurs, trigger guard with foliate finial and silver sideplate embossed with arms and scrolls. Walnut ramrod with horn tip mounts through beaded silver pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: fair to good. Barrel nicely toned to dark mustard brown. Lock is also dark brown; lightly pitted. Stock with old finish is somewhat worn and has many bumps and dings. Grip shows some repairs. Mounts are generally good; rear portion of silver sideplate missing. Bore is good. Lock is good.
