Cal. 44 S# 1567. Mfg. 1860. There were only an estimated 4000 fluted Colt 1860 army revolvers produced out of the total entire run of 1860 armies. This example is fitted with a 8" bbl with a 1-line New York address and "C" inspector stamp above the wedge on the left side breech area & "D" found forward of the loading lever. The four screw frame is marked with the standard "COLTS/PATENT" stamp with the recoil shield notched four a shoulder stock and a capping slot is present. The brass trigger guard strap has an "L" inspector mark located behind the trigger guard. The 6-shot fluted cylinder is patent marked in one of the flutes with decent cylinder pins showing some wear. The iron back strap is "T" inspector marked and notched for stock. The 1-piece grip is a replacement that is not of Colt mfg. The bbl, wedge, straps, & cyl have matching SN. The loading lever and arbor are unnumbered. CONDITION: overall good-very good. The bbl retains traces of finish in the protected areas with the balance turning to an even aged grey patina with crisp markings. The loading lever has some dull thinning case coloring remaining in the protected areas. The cylinder blue has been touched up with softer marking that are still legible. Frame and trigger guard strap are void of finish with an nice patina and smooth surfaces. The back strap has some traces of blue in the sheltered lower traffic areas. Grips have been sanded and refinished with some glue in the channels. Bore has decent twist rifling showing some wear and pitting. (01-29117/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $5,000-8,000.
