, LT COL C B WOODMAN, 1ST MASS HEAVY ARTILLERY. Scarce model 1872 artillery officer saber, 32" narrow curved blade, "BENT & BUSH / Boston / Mass" marker mark, "U.S.V." & "Lieut. Col. C. B. Woodman / 1st Mass / ARTY." Etched in old English text. Charles B. Woodman (1856-1921) Former fire commissioner of Fall River, Mass had 30 years of service in Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, most notably in 1st Mass Heavy Artillery and is prominent part of the 1899 300-page illustrated text "The First regiment Massachusetts Heavy Artillery, United States Volunteers, in the Spanish-American War of 1898". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: research file. CONDITION: very fine overall, bright lustrous blade. Steel scabbard retains most all its plated surface, brass hilt and scabbard mounts retain traces of gold wash. PROVENANCE: Marcus Porpora lifelong sword collection. (02-26424-16/JS).
