COMMERCIAL LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 30 Luger. S# 3599o. Bbl. 3 13/16". Model 1920 Commercial Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM from surplus military and newly produced parts/components for commercial sales, and subsequently imported/retailed by J.L. Galef of New York. The left side of the bbl. extension is marked with a German Crown/N commercial nitro proof, which is repeated on the left side of the breechblock and underside of the bbl. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Top of the bbl. is marked "J.L. GALEF./ NEW YORK, N.Y.". Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, and ejector, which are strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching in the "hidden" commercial fashion, including the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, bbl., and rear toggle link. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with wood plug marked "GERMANY". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: x3 original J.L. Galef sales pamphlets. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, showing some spots of light edge wear and thinning, a few small scattered spots of light wear (right side of bbl. extension and front grip strap), as well as a few superficial handling marks overall. Strawed parts retain large amounts of their original finish, exhibiting wear fading to gray patina and scattered spots of age related discoloration at contact areas. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots and streaks of light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show light smoothing, as well as a few superficial marks to the diamonds, but otherwise remain very good overall. Left grip panel exhibits a small chip in the usual area, to the right of the safety lever. Wood mag. plug exhibits a crack, but otherwise appears sound. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1193/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
