RIFLE WITH CODY FIREARMS RECORDS CHECK. Cal. 38-55. S#96418. Mfg 1900. Bbl 24" octagon with two leaf rear sight, dovetailed Lyman bead front sight & full length mag tube. Left side of receiver has " Climbin Lyman" receiver sight. Balance of metal is blued with case hardened lever, hammer and buttplate. Nitre blued loading gate. Straight grain walnut stock and forend with metal forend cap and crescent steel buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Records check stating the following: " Serial number applied on October 10,1900 / Type: Rifle / Caliber:38/55 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Trigger: Plain / Received in warehouse on October 31, 1900 / To Russ / Received in warehouse on September 26,1901 / Shipped from warehouse on October 05,1901, Order number 114774". CONDITION: blued metal parts retain 70% original finish with high edge carry wear and slight thinning. Lever retains 20% original case colors. Buttplate shows traces of original case coloring. Loading gate retains 40% original Nitre blue. Buttstock shows good original finish with a few scattered light to moderate handling marks. Right side of stock has 3" finish scratch. It appears an added layer of protective finish was added to forearm over original finish with scattered light handling marks. Right side of rear sight base missing screw. Very good bore shows crisp rifling. Overall a very nice turn of the century Winchester. (26-1873/BH). CURIO. $3,000-4,000.
