SABER. Lion head pommel officer sword circa 1850, hilt has raised relief Mexican eagle, snake, and liberty cap, folding pierced languet, sharkskin grip. Solingen made etched 34" quill back blade, with Mexican patriotic motifs, plated metal scabbard with Napoleonic style acorn & oak leaf decorated, gold plated ring mounts. CONDITION: very good overall, blade retains some original polish & luster, stained, gold highlights traces only now, all etching discernible. Brass hilt & scabbard mounts retain 90% plus gold wash. Grip has all sharkskin retained, wire wrap about half missing. Scabbard sound, one dent, scattered scratching & scuffing. PROVENANCE: estate collection of Compton LaBauve, Jr. (02-26469/JS).
