PISTOL. Cal. 44. NSN.12" overall, pair of 6" octagonal barrels with individual pans & frizzens, barrels signed "W. Buchele" & "Toledo, Ohio", curly maple stocks, brass furniture, silver insets, and silver wire, light engraved butt cap & sideplate. William Buchelle (1895-1977) author of 2 early texts on recreating the American long rifle was a master craftsman. His Kentucky rifles and pistols are among the most innovative recreations made in the 1950s-1970s. The barrel swivel lock is beautifully sculptured steel heart button attached to spring loaded catch on trigger bow forward of trigger. Few contemporary long rifle makers attempt swivel breeches, and this pistol is exemplary. CONDITION: fine overall, mechanics function, but cock is sloppy with play, crisp rifled bores. (01-27922/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
