FLINTLOCK LONG FOWLER. Cal. 64. NSN. 67" overall, 51" tapering octagonal to round barrel, tapering top barrel flat, inset silver blade front sight, salvaged military brass furniture, early military style high comb walnut stock with no moldings, brass trigger, flat Kentucky style side plate, pre-1750 Dutch banana lock, nailed tip of buttplate & trigger guard. Thumb plate is pinned copper heart. Original carved ramrod with long attached worm. Several very similar examples can be found pictured in Neumann's "WEAPONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION". CONDITION: very good overall, complete & original, well disguised crack/break repair on stock belly at trigger plate. barrel & lock have dark smooth iron patina; brass has toned light mustard patina. Stock is sound with hand worn patina. Mechanically functional, good smooth clear bore. This is a beautiful pre-Revolutionary War era long fowler that has survived in remarkable condition with well executed minor restoration. (01-28816/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
