PISTOL. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 1062629. Mfg. 1943 w/in S# range 1,060,000 - 1,096,404. The Union Switch & Signal Co. of Swissvale, Pennsylvania received a contract on May 5, 1942 for the manufacture of 200,000 Model 1911A1 pistols, of which 55,000 were produced (2nd rarest production of WWII 1911A1 pistols). Based on "U.S. Pistols & Revolvers 1909-1945" by J.C. Harrison, appears to have all correct era features including: Type 18 High Standard 5" bbl., bbl. bushing having concentric rings, Keyes Fiber grips, Type E variation 3 hammer, Type B slide lock, Type 3 arched mainspring housing. Left side of frame has "RCD" inspector cartouche w/ firing proof on slide & mag. release. MAGS: 1 Ridson 7 rd. CONDITION: pistol has over 85% original bead blasted finish with light edge wear, scattered spots of finish loss, scattered spots of patina & discoloration of finish around slide lock notch & slide. Very good grips. Very good original barrel blue showing cycling wear; bright & strong rifling. (25-6704/MD). CURIO. $7,000-10,000.
