Early Pre-War W.J. Jeffery Mauser Bolt Action Sporting Rifle, #7592, 8x57 cal., 24" military barrel with stepped profile, polished blue finish, top of the receiver is stippled to reduce reflection. Checkered walnut one-piece stock with horn forend tip and grip cap, with sling eyes, and checkered horn buttplate; providing a 13.5" LOP. Front sight is a beaded blade on raised base with hood; three-leaf folding express rear sights on raised rib. With numerous English proofs, including Birmingham view marks on the right side of the receiver, barrel, and bolt handle. Barrel address reads "SHOT & FINISHED BY W.J. JEFFERY & Co Ltd, LONDON". Mfg'd circa 1903-1904. Rifle is in fine condition as professionally restored, retaining approx. 96%-97% of an old quality reblued finish, with a few light marks along the barrel and edge of the trigger guard. Stock is in good condition, with numerous indentations and impressions, worse on the left side of the forend. There is one small chip missing from the upper left edge of the horn forend cap; otherwise, horn pieces are very fine. Action functions smoothly. Bore with mild surface texture throughout; rifling is good. An early Jeffery sporter on a pre-WWI military action, in the original 8mm Mauser chambering. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R)
