Early Mark III Lee Enfield Bolt Action Short Rifle, #1591, .22 rimfire cal., 25.2" barrel, blued finish, walnut stock set and handguard, blade front sight with protectors, and adjustable tangent rear sight with "U"-notched groove, graduated to 2000 yards. Rifle was arsenal built into a .22 cal. training rifle from a Converted II Lee Enfield service rifle with an early receiver. A .22 cal. barrel and bolt head (marked 22 No 2) with offset firing pin were fitted. The follower has been removed from the magazine. Right side of the action body marked with original "(Crown)/ER" over "SHT22/III/EFD". There are inspection stamps on the left side but the conversion markings have been removed. Right side of the buttstock disc is stamped "1.15/2 CD/RGA(Royal Garrison Artillery)/49" behind a painted Arabic rack number. Matching numbers on bolt handle and rear sight. Nose cap does not match. No visible import marks. Condition overall is very good, retaining approx. 65%-70% blue; showing wear, toning, and handling marks. Wood is good with handling marks, a few small chips, and impressions to the darkened finish. There is a spliced repair to right side of the forend. Action operates smoothly. Bore is bright with very good rifling. Est.: $800-$1,100. (C&R)
