GETTER COMBINATION GUN. Cal. 22 / 440 G.G. (.44 Game Getter). S# 318. Bbl. 12". Model 1908 Game Getter O/U combination gun mfg. by Marble Safety Axe Co., likely during the first or second year of production. The left side of the bbl. block is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/ MARBLE SAFETY AXE CO./ -GLADSTONE, MICH.U.S.A.-", with a stylized "GAME GETTER" marked on the left side of the frame. Ejector appears to have been scrubbed and reblued at one time. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the hammer assembly, which exhibits a case colored finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered brown hard rubber grips, each featuring an encircled Marbles trademark logo at the top of the panel, as well as with a nickel plated under-folding buttstock. Brass beaded blade front sight (above a "globe" style sight), with dovetailed flip-up U-notch rear sight, and flip-up tang mounted disc aperture rear sight. Left side of tang sight base is marked "MARBLE", with "PAT.OCT.20/08" marked on the right. NFA registry lists "1908 GAMEGETTER" in the model block, with ".22/.440 G.G." in the caliber block. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, with scattered spots of light surface oxidation present overall. Frame shows general overall thinning that has softly faded to a blue / brown patina. Hammer retains strong and vibrant case coloring, with wear fading to gray patina on the top strap. Stock retains large amounts of its original nickel plated finish, showing scattered spots of flaking and dark oxidation. Very bright bores, exhibiting some scratches and a few scattered spots of light pitting. .22 caliber bore retains strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some age related discoloration, as well as superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. A scarce example of an extremely early production Marbles Model 1908 Game Getter. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH.
