ENGRAVED COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER SAA REVOLVER. Cal. 44-40. S# 130920. Manufactured in 1890 as one of the last etched panel frontier six shooters to be produced before Colt would switch to the sturdier roll dye marking. Bottom of barrel stamped "44"above cylinder pin. Revolver has been professionally restored to its original configuration with a full nickel finish and 75% coverage level "B" engraving in the unmistakable style of Colt master engraver Cuno Helfricht. Frame, barrel and cylinder display meticulously executed floral scroll over nicely shaded fine punch dot background. Left side of barrel bears etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". Panel is underscored by rope twist engraving. Recoil shield, loading gate and top of backstrap show a scalloped engraving pattern. Borders engraved with fancy single and double line twist accented with punch dots. Left side of trigger guard bow stamped "44 CAL". Frame screws are tastefully niter blued. Revolver is stocked with beautiful two-piece mother of pearl grips; right panel displays a carved steer head motif. Barrel 5-1/2" with scallop engraved front sight. Metal retains 98%+ nickel plating with a few minor finish scratches at muzzle end of barrel. Grips are very good with one small missing surface chip at top front of left panel.
