1906/20 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 30 Luger. S# 3197i. Bbl. 4 3/4". 1 of only 100 Luger semi-automatic pistols ordered by Abercrombie & Fitch from Switzerland, delivered in 1922, of which only approx. 50 (Differing ratios noted throughout the years: 50/50, 52/48, or 51/49) were chambered in 7.65x21mm Parabellum, with the remainder being chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. Falling within the S# range of 2162i-3199i, these Lugers were shipped by DWM to Switzerland without bbls. (due to the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles), where they were subsequently fitted with bbls. mfg. by Hammerli. This example, S# 3197i, is marked with Swiss Federal Cross within a starburst over the top of the chamber, with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo marked on the toggle. Top of the bbl. is marked "ABERCROMBIE & FITCH Co NEW YORK/ MADE IN SWITZERLAND", with the bottom line being properly offset from the upper line of text. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Trigger exhibits a reheated straw finish. Trigger bar spring, mag. release button spring, rear toggle pin, and grip screws exhibit a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, and features a grip safety. Dovetailed blade front sight (mounted on a distinctive set-back foresight bed, as found on Hammerli produced bbls.) and standard fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, bbl. (properly along the bbl. axis), bbl. extension, as well as the rear toggle link. Sideplate and trigger have been renumbered at one time to match. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with proper Swiss pattern wood plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original Abercrombie & Fitch black leather holster marked with a stylized "A&F" on front of the closure flap. This example is also accompanied by an original 1929 Abercrombie & Fitch firearms catalog. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their blue finish, exhibiting some light to mild wear and thinning that shows through to gray and brown patinas, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Strawed parts are very good to excellent, exhibiting some spots of age related discoloration. Mirror bore, retaining good shallow 4-groove rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips are very good to excellent, showing some small nicks and marks to the diamonds. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting some light wear overall. An exceedingly scarce and seldom offered Abercrombie & Fitch Swiss Luger. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1132/MLW). CURIO. $3,500-5,500.
