SAA REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 42421. Bbl 7-1/2 with blade front sight & "Bullseye" ejector rod head. Mfg 1880 & shipped to the iconic J.P. Lower's Sporting Goods in Denver, Colorado. After moving to Denver in 1875, Lower purchased the Freund Bros. establishment and set up shop in what would be known as one of the earliest and well-known firearms retailers in the western United States. Celebrities and lawmen such as Buffalo Bill Cody, Annie Oakley, Kit Carson & Bat Masterson were all known to have frequented his establishment. The vast majority of firearms purchased from his establishment saw hard frontier use. Finding an example in this condition would be considered an anomaly. Blued barrel, ejector housing, six-shot fluted cylinder and grip frame. Matching serial numbers throughout. Case hardened frame & hammer. 1-piece walnut grip. Lower / Address: Denver, Colorado / Date of Shipment: April 28, 1880 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 50. CONDITION: Very fine and original throughout. Blued metal parts, incl. grip strap, retain better than 70% original factory blue. There is one minor ding on top of front sight visible only when rolled in the correct light. Frame & hammer exhibit 60% bright original case colors. Grip is very good, and retains 85% of its original varnish with a few scattered light impressions and handling marks with minor finish wear at corners of butt. Bore rates very good to near excellent displaying only light wear. Mechanically excellent, all four notches intact. An extremely fine & original example of the iconic Colt SAA revolver with frontier ties. (01-29426/BH). ANTIQUE. $16,000-22,000.
